The big boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor could see the men using eight-ounce gloves.

When Floyd Mayweather brought up the idea of wearing lighter gloves for his August 26th boxing match with Conor McGregor, most thought it was just another angle to sell the fight. After all, the Nevada Athletic Commission didn’t even allow gloves below ten ounces for fights at 154 pounds.

But the idea might not be as silly as it sounds now that both Mayweather and McGregor are on board with it.

According to Boxing Scene (and confirmed by MMA Fighting), the commission is set to vote on the fighters being able to wear eight-ounce gloves for their fight. NSAC head Bob Bennett confirmed that the vote will take place on August 16th.

Eight-ounce gloves are generally used for fights that take place at 135 pounds or below in boxing. In fights between 135 and 147 pounds, either eight or ten-ounce gloves can be used, while anything about 147 is supposed to be 10 only. But both sides have requested the change, so the commission is open to it.

The fight goes down on August 26th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
