Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Michael Bisping just lost out on another major payday, after turning down a catchweight battle against former Strikeforce welterweight titleholder Nick Diaz.
Sure, “The Count” was contemplating a showdown at UFC 206, but I guess those injuries were too much to overcome. Either that, or Bisping was holding out for his Georges St-Pierre title fight.
Diaz vents to TMZ (via FOX Sports):
“You want to know the truth right now? I talked to Michael Bisping already in New York about doing this fight. There’s more money for him if he takes the fight with me. We were talking about a catchweight fight, he’s talking about it like it’s going to be hard to make the weight. I’m like come on. It would be a non-title fight. After I whoop his ass, he still keeps the belt. So that’s more money, then you go fight GSP. Same with Georges. I’m just doing more numbers than he is, so you can do more money to fight me.”
I guess that didn’t hold true with this guy.
While Diaz sits on the sidelines, giving away all his big-money fights to fellow welterweight Jorge Masvidal, Bisping will move on to fight St-Pierre at an upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) event later this year.
