NSAC suspends Diego Brandao nine months, fines him $10,800 for failed drug test

When it rains, it pours.

Not long after Diego Brandao was released by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for his alleged involvement in a strip club altercation, which saw the featherweight contender try to enter a club in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a gun, the Brazilian got some more bad news.

According to MMA Fighting, Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended Diego for a period of nine months and fined him $10,800 (30-percent of his fight purse) after he tested positive for marijuana during a drug test that was administered back on Jan. 2, 2016 for his UFC 195 bout against Brian Ortega.

A fight he lost via submission.

Brandao was previously suspended by United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for nine months, but both penalties will run concurrently. Since his punishment will be retroactive to the date of the test, Brandao will be eligible to return to mixed martial arts (MMA) on Oct. 2, 2016.

Under what banner, remains to be seen.
