Hey, did you know Floyd Mayweather Jr. was coming out of retirement to box Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight champion Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, Nevada?
Me neither, but someone on the Internet said it was happening (sources, bro) so it must be true.
Sure, McGregor is under exclusive contract with UFC and like Anderson Silva before him, can’t just show up in “Sin City” to fight whoever he pleases, but why let reality stand in the way of a good story? That was enough for the oddsmakers at Bovada, who opened “Money” at -2000.
The fight must be regulated and is required to take place in 2016 for the odds to pay.
“Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he’s obsessed with making Conor eat his words,” someone who was not identified told The Sun. “It was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn’t reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he’ll be fighting Conor.”
Mayweather and McGregor took turns trashing each other in the media earlier this year (sample) and the only thing standing between them and a showdown in the “sweet science” — besides a UFC contract — is the weight class, fight purse, and broadcasting rights.
Other than that, it’s practically a done deal!
