ONE: “Quest for Greatness” is set for the Jakarta Convention Centre on Saturday night (local time). The card is headlined by a flyweight matchup between Geje Eustaquio and Kairat Akhmetov and features two of Indonesia’s top prospects.
Stefer Rahardian will be looking to extend his perfect professional record on home soil. It is more than five years since ONE Championship’s inaugural event in Indonesia but some exciting prospects are finally starting to emerge.
Here is my preview of the bottom half of the card. As always with ONE the weights listed are the fighters normal walking weight.
145 lbs.: Riski Umar vs Adi Nugroho
There’s no footage available of either fighter but Adi Nugroho (0-1) dropped a split decision on his ONE Championship debut last year. Riski Umar makes his pro debut, although its worth noting there are a lot of small shows in Indonesia that don’t record results.
125 lbs.: Adrien Matheis vs Phat Soda
Adrien Matheis (2-3) was on the wrong side of one of the ugliest beatdowns in ONE Championship history against Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke. He’s fought five times for the promotion but is on a three fight losing skid.
Phat Soda is a Cambodian Kun Khmer specialist making his pro debut. He doesn’t quite have Dejdamrong’s striking credentials but is capable of scoring a KO if he can keep it standing, the Indonesian will try and ensure that doesn’t happen.
135 lbs.: Jerome Paye vs Yodsanan Sityodtong
Jerome Paye (2-3) is a Taekwondo black belt and a BJJ purple belt. But Yodsanan Sityodtong (3-1) is a former WBA world champion who was known for his punching power during a very successful boxing career.
Paye’s Taekwondo credentials are impeccable but he won’t beat Yodsanan in a striking match. He needs to put the Thai on his back but wrestling isn’t the Liberians strong suit.
135 lbs.: Deligerihu Liu vs Ramon Gonzalez
Deligerihu Liu (2-2) is a wrestling champion who makes his promotional debut in Jakarta. Stylistically this is a very good matchup for the Chinese fighter. who had initially been scheduled to fight in Shanghai at the start of the month.
Ramon Gonzalez (1-2) has a background in Karate which makes him dangerous with spinning strikes but won’t help much when it comes to defending takedowns. He did cause Yodsanan a few problems when they fought last year so don’t write the Filipino off altogether.
155 lbs.: Jeremy Meciaz vs Hisyam Samsudin
Indonesia has a thriving MMA scene and the country tends to produce good grapplers. Jeremy Meciaz (0-1) signed for ONE Championship as a decorated submission specialist, at least at national level, but was blown away by a very strong Chinese opponent on his promotional debut.
ONE: “Quest for Greatness” can be purchased for $9.99 USD from here.
