Strikeforce never die.
A pair of alums of the organization, Ovince Saint Preux and Rafael Cavalcante, will meet at UFC 196 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, it was announced Wednesday on UFC Tonight.
Saint Preux (18-7) won two in a row before falling to Glover Teixeira by third-round submission in August. He has wins over Mauricio Rua and Patrick Cummins to his credit. Saint Preux, 32, has only ever lost to elites at light heavyweight: Teixeira, Ryan Bader and Gegard Mousasi.
Cavalcante (12-6, 1 NC) has lost two in a row and three of four since coming over to the UFC. Most recently, “Feijao” fell via third-round TKO to Cummins at UFC 190 in August. The 35-year-old Brazilian, who owns a victory over Yoel Romero, is a longtime training partner of Anderson Silva and the Nogueira brothers.
UFC 196 will be headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between champion Fabricio Werdum and former champ Cain Velasquez. A big welterweight bout between Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson was added to the card last weekend.
