Patrick Cote ready to channel his inner Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 89 and earn title shot

As one of the more underrated Welterweight fighters on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster, former Middleweight title challenger Patrick Cote has a lot of catching up to do.

Cote, 36, has recorded a highly respectable 5-1 divisional record, losing to only Stephen Thompson, since making his 170-pound debut back in 2013. Still, despite his elevated level of success later into his career, “The Predator” has fallen behind the pack and unable to even crack the top 15.

He’ll atempt to turn the right heads this Saturday (June 18, 2016) when he takes on the ultra-popular Donald Cerrone in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa, Quebec, Canada.

“I don’t do the sacrifice just to be No. 2,” said Cote during Thursday’s Fight Night Ottawa Open Workouts (h/t UFC). “I do that because I want to be world champion. I still think I have the potential to have another title fight.”

Remember, Cote once challenged the great Anderson Silva for Octagon supremacy back at UFC 90, losing via third-round TKO after blowing his knee out.

“I tried to call the entire Top 15 out for a year and a half but I didn’t get any answers,” added Cote. “So now I’m tired to do that. I’m going to pass Cerrone and I’m going to call (out) the champ right now.”

With Michael Bisping’s recent first-round knockout of Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 to earn the Middleweight strap in the back of everyone’s mind, it’s possible that a fellow veteran like Cote can find golden success at this point in his promotional stint.
