Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, much like former division foe Donald Cerrone before him, is saying goodbye to the 155-pound weight class after suffering back-to-back losses to Eddie Alvarez and Tony Ferguson.
Dollars and sense.
“For how much I’m making right now, it’s not worth it for me to make 155 (pounds),” Dos Anjos told MMA Junkie. “If it’s a superfight and I’ll make more money, I’ll do it. But (for) how much I’m making right now, it’s not worth it to put my body at that level of stress.”
A lot of that going around these days.
Dos Anjos (25-9) is setting his sights on some of the top names in the welterweight division, including ex-champion Robbie Lawler and top draw Nick Diaz. How the promotion matches him up remains to be seen, but the window of opportunity is gradually closing for the 32-year-old Brazilian.
