Take this weight class and shove it.
Perhaps not learning anything from Conor McGregor, reigning lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is willing to put his title into storage and move up to the welterweight division to fight 170-pound kingpin Robbie Lawler at the UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV) event in July.
From his conversation with MMA Hour:
“I’m ready to fight right now but I have my foot injury. So I have a lot of energy, I want to do stuff, but I can’t yet. But it’s fine. I’m going to be back in four or five weeks. I’m up for UFC 200. I don’t know the UFC’s plans, but I’m here, man, I’m here to fight anybody. I’ll fight welterweight too, if they need. I respect Robbie Lawler, but if UFC needs somebody to fight for the welterweight (title), I would fight.”
Matt Brown would probably approve.
Dos Anjos is riding the pine with a broken foot, one that forced him from his McGregor showdown at UFC 196 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Notorious” accepted Nate Diaz on short notice — at welterweight — only to be submitted in round two (watch it).
Anyone think the Brazilian would fare any better when taking on “Ruthless?”
