With Kimbo Slice dinged for drugs, top light heavyweight attraction Quinton Jackson will have to move on without him.
As a result, “Rampage” was recently booked for a catchweight fight at 215 pounds opposite Japanese import Satoshi Ishii, who is perhaps best known for winning a gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics. They’ll headline the upcoming Bellator 157: “Dynamite 2” event on Fri., June 24, 2016 inside Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
ESPN first reported the bout on Tuesday.
Like the promotion’s previous “Dynamite” show, the Spike TV telecast will feature kickboxing as well as mixed martial arts (MMA) fights, to help promote Scott Coker’s vision of a viable stand-up only combat sports organization (more on that endeavor here).
Jackson (36-11) competed just once over the past two years, a unanimous decision win over Fabio Maldonado, thanks to an ugly contract dispute between Bellator and UFC. As for Ishii (14-5), he makes his stateside debut on the heels of a knockout loss to Jiri Prochazka last December in RIZIN.
Expect more Bellator 157: “Dynamite 2” fight card announcements in the coming weeks.
