Evans was scheduled to face Tim Kennedy in a 185-pound match-up at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, but was removed from the fight card due to medical concerns by the New York State Athletic Commission. The fight was rebooked to take place at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto, Canada. He was removed from the fight card after the Ontario Athletic Commission declined to grant him a license.
The 37-year-old was pulled from the two fight cards due to concerns surrounding irregularities that showed up on a MRI. Evans last fought in April 2016, losing to Glover Teixeira by knockout. His 185-pound debut will now take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 4.
Kelly is coming off a three-fight winning streak. He last competed on Nov. 27, defeating Chris Camozzi by unanimous decision. The 39-year-old is a four-time member on the Australian Olympic judo team.
UFC 209 is headlined by the rematch between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson fight for the interim 155-pound title in the fight card’s co-main event.
