Ray Borg has no doubt he will be touching gloves with Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216 on Saturday night.
Ray Borg can guarantee he will indeed be fighting this weekend.
Borg, who fights Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight title at UFC 216, said he is healthy, his weight cut is going well, and he will be ready to go on fight night. That wasn’t the case for their first scheduled bout.
“I feel great,” Borg told MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani at the UFC 216 media day on Wednesday. “Weight cut’s going fantastic. Everything’s smooth. … No infections. My throat sounds clear. My nasal passages sound clear. I feel fantastic.”
Borg was supposed to fight “Mighty Mouse” at UFC 215 last month in Edmonton, Alberta, but he was forced off the card during fight week due to illness. The bout was quickly rescheduled for Saturday’s event.
“The Tazmexican Devil” wouldn’t reveal exactly how much he weighed three days out, but he expects to make the 125-pound limit with ease.
“I weigh enough … enough to make weight easily,” he said.
Borg stopped working with nutrition company Perfecting Athletes, whom he hired ahead of his fight against Jussier Formiga this past March, after the UFC 215 cancellation. But he’s not entirely alone: now Borg is getting help at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
“I’m not working with a specific nutritionist,” Borg said. “People got the wrong impression that I’m just out here doing ding a muck. I’m not working with a specific nutritionist, but I am taking advantage of the nutritionist at the UFC PI. His team over there, they’re just kinda helping me function, just to make sure it goes smooth.”
Borg has absolutely no doubt he’ll be in the cage opposite the pound-for-pound king on Saturday. And he knows exactly how he’ll walk away the champ, too.
“I will guarantee to everyone that I will make it to the fight and win the fight,” Borg said. “Third-round submission. Rear-naked choke.”
Headlined by Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight title, UFC 216 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
