Fedor’s upcoming Bellator debut may be against an entirely different opponent than initially planned.

According to Izvestia.ru, the Russian outlet that first reported Khabib Nurmagomedov’s weight issues ahead of UFC 209, Bellator is no longer interested in rescheduling the Fedor vs. Mitrione fight. Instead, it appears as though Bellator is considering Quinton Jackson, Joey Beltran, and Cheick Kongo as potential replacements for the ‘Last Emperor.’

The Russian report revealed that Bellator is concerned about Mitrione’s health and remain uncertain about his potential return date. The UFC veteran originally withdrew from the Bellator 172 headliner a few hours before the Fedor fight due to a sharp pain that turned out to be kidney stones. Fedor refused last-minute replacement fights against the likes of Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz and announced that he would not return before May or June.

While Bellator is yet to confirm the report or announce a replacement for Fedor’s debut, the renowned Russian heavyweight’s camp does not appear too concerned with the potential change-up.

“If Fedor’s opponent is replaced, it will not be a huge problem for us,” Voronov told Izvestia. “We are ready for any fight that the organization will provide.”

Fedor’s Bellator debut is expected to take place in June or July.
