Report: Pettis, Felder denied UFC 223 main event against Khabib

The search for a replacement for Max Holloway continues.

According to reports, neither Anthony Pettis nor Paul Felder will replace Max Holloway as the main event of UFC 223. The reports come after Max Holloway was deemed unfit to fight by the New York State Athletic Commission earlier today.

Anthony Pettis weighed in Fridaymorning, even though his fight with Michael Chiesa was called off. Pettis weighed in at 155.2lbs, missing the championship weight by 0.2lbs. According to NYSAC rules, Pettis should have received 2 hours to make weight if he was fighting for the championship.

Before Pettis could weigh-in again, the commission took the scale away and closed the weigh-ins. Reports have now surfaced that Pettis won’t be fighting Nurmagomedov in the main event.

Paul Felder was rumored as the next in-line to get the shot, but he’s now being ruled out of the bout. Felder tweeted that he tried to get the main event spot against Nurmagomedov, but that the commission wouldn’t allow the fight.

The UFC and the NYSAC haven’t confirmed these reports. There has been speculation that Felder wasn’t allowed to step into the main event spot because he is currently unranked at Lightweight.

Paul Felder is currently scheduled to fight Al Iaquinta at UFC 223. Iaquinta made a push on social media for the main event spot, but he weighed-in at 155.2 this morning, missing championship weight.

An announcement on what the UFC 223 main event will be is expected shortly.
