Rising featherweights Yair Rodriguez and Zabit Magomedsharipov are targeted for UFC 227 in Los Angeles.
A pair of up-and-coming featherweights could be on tap for the UFC’s big pay-per-view card in Los Angeles.
LA Times’ Lance Pugmire wrote on Twitter that Dana White confirmed Yair Rodriguez will take on Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC 227 on August 4th.
Shortly afterwards, however, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani also reported on his Twitter account that the bout is not yet a closed deal, despite what Dana White said.
Reports that Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Yair Rodriguez is done for 227 are premature. I reported weeks ago that’s the fight and date they want but I’m told it’s not close to done at this time. Not off the table and could very well happen but not done.

Yair Rodriguez (10-2) was on a six-fight winning streak, with wins over the likes of Leonardo Morales, Charles Rosa, Dan Hooker, Andre Fili, Alex Caceres, and B.J. Penn before being stopped by Frankie Edgar by TKO at UFC 211 in May 2017. Rodriguez has not fought since then.
Zabit Magomedsharipov (15-1) is on a three-fight winning streak in the UFC, having already defeated names such as Mike Santiago, Sheymon Moraes, and most recently a Fight of the Night performance against Kyle Bochniak. Outside of the Octagon, the 27-year-old had another eight straight wins before signing with the UFC.
UFC 227 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The card will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between the champion, T.J. Dillashaw, and former titleholder Cody Garbrandt.
