After a long run at lightweight, Michael Chiesa is starting over in a new weight class. And it appears that he’s getting what he asked for in terms of a first opponent at 170 – former interim champion Carlos Condit. It’s expected to go down at UFC 232.
MMANYTT’s Damon Martin confirmed that the bout has been verbally agreed to by both men, but bout agreements have not been issued as of yet.
Chiesa (14-4, 7-4 UFC) missed weight for the first time in his UFC career when he came in at 157.5 pounds for his UFC 226 bout against Anthony Pettis. He was submitted by Pettis early in the second round, which was his second loss in a row. Faced with the choice, Chiesa has elected to move up to welterweight.
Condit (30-12, 7-8 UFC) is on the longest losing streak of his career, dropping four bouts in a row. The last came to Alex Oliveira via submission in April. Condit hasn’t tasted victory in the Octagon since a TKO win over Thiago Alves in May 2015.
UFC 232 goes down on December 29th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It is expected to be headlined by a women’s superfight between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes.
