Terence Crawford def. Amir Khan, TKO (Round 6, 0:47)

Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan seemed like it was going in a certain direction, with Crawford on the way to a KO win. And in the end, that’s what happened, but not how you might have expected it.

In round 1, Crawford dropped Khan with a counter right followed by a clean left. Many expected Khan to start strong, but instead, Crawford was the one who established himself early. Over the next few rounds, Crawford continued the pressure, adding in body work that hurt Khan and had him wobbled on more than one occasion.

In the sixth round, Crawford appeared to be in control. He then landed a serious low blow (Crawford denied it was low in the post-fight interview, but it looked mighty low on the replay). Khan was hurt and took a few minutes to recover. During his recovery time, Khan told his trainer Virgil Hinter that he could not continue. Hunter informed the referee Khan was done, and that was that. The fight was waved off, and since it was Khan who opted not to continue, the final decision was a TKO for Crawford.

In his post-fight interview, Khan said be told his corner he could not continue based on the low blow. For his part, Crawford and Top Rank’s Bob Arum talked up a possible future fight with Errol Spence, Jr.

Crawford now extends his perfect record to a perfect 35-0. Khan drops his 5th fight and is now 33-5.
