Former UFC champs Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will meet in the UFC on FOX 26 main event this December.
The UFC’s return to Winnipeg will feature an outstanding welterweight bout.
Former champions Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos are set to clash in the UFC on FOX 26 main event, UFC officials announced Thursday morning.
Lawler (28-11) rebounded from a July 2016 title loss to Tyron Woodley with a recent decision victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214. “Ruthless” has won six of his last seven outings, which include two championship defenses against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit, as well as a title win against Johny Hendricks in late 2014.
Dos Anjos (27-9) moved up to the 170-pound division after losing his lightweight belt by first-round TKO to Eddie Alvarez at UFC Fight Night 98 in July 2016. In his divisional debut, he bested Tarec Saffiedine by unanimous decision. Most recently, he tapped out Neil Magny in the first round at UFC 215 in one of the most impressive performances of his veteran career.
The organization also announced that the following fights will take place at the event, too: John Makdessi vs. Abel Trujillo at lightweight (first reported Wednesday by MMA-Today.com); Chad Laprise vs. Galore Bofando at welterweight; Nordine Taleb vs. Sultan Aliev at welterweight.
UFC on FOX 26 will take place at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Dec. 16. Also on tap for the event is a pivotal light-heavyweight matchup between Glover Teixeira and Misha Cirkunov.
