With the announcement that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Michael Bisping will make his first title defense opposite a 45-year-old Dan Henderson later this year, other prospective title contenders are deservedly pissed off.
None more so than former Strikeforce king Ronaldo Souza, who has compiled a 6-1 divisional record since making his UFC debut in 2013. The man known as “Jacare” last defeated Vitor Belfort via first-round TKO at UFC 198 and had his only Octagon defeat come by way of split-decision opposite Yoel Romero at UFC 194.
Considering Henderson has only defeated Hector Lombard and Tim Boetsch since early 2014, elite Middleweights like Souza believe Bisping is taking the easy way out in search of revenge. The Brazilian recently took to Facebook to accuse “The Count” of running in the most hilarious way possible:
While “Jacare” did have his own chance to step in on short notice at UFC 199 and challenge Luke Rockhold for the 185-pound word title, he was unable to compete. If everything goes as planned, Souza will remain on a short list of readily available title replacements should anything happen to the aging Henderson leading up to his rematch with Bisping.
