Ronda Rousey: Amanda Nunes predicting first-round KO ‘because everyone knows she gasses out in the second’

Amanda Nunes has predicted that she will knock Ronda Rousey out in the first round. Rousey thinks she has an idea why Nunes would say that.

“Yeah, well she kind of has to say that, because everyone knows she gasses out in the second,” Rousey said Wednesday on Conan. “So she has to tell herself that, ‘It’s gonna happen first round.’ What else is she gonna tell herself?”

The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion was on Conan O’Brien’s show to promote her UFC 207 bout against Nunes, the current titleholder, on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. But it doesn’t seem like she’ll be doing much more than that. Rousey intimated that her days doing ESPN “carwashes” and other media like that are over.

“I don’t really have to,” Rousey said. “I’ve done a lot of learning in this last year and I’ve learned that the views I get or the money I make really doesn’t mean anything for me or my happiness. Now that I know the women’s division is secure, I don’t have to do that anymore. I choose not to.

“It’s not really something that I get a kick off of. Like, ‘Ooh, I went to spend 12 hours at ESPN and talk sh*t all day.’ That’s not really what I want to do. I want to play World of Warcraft.”

Rousey, 29, has not made many public appearances this year, following her November 2015 loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193. The defeat to Holm was a shocking one. Before that, Rousey was one of the most dominant fighters in UFC history and a transcendent star, the biggest mainstream face MMA has ever had.

Rousey (12-1) was undefeated before fighting Holm and truly unchallenged. “Rowdy” finished her previous four fights in 66 seconds or less. She ran roughshod over the division for more than two years.

With movies, television and commercials all beckoning — Rousey was just named a key spokesperson for Pantene — UFC 207 might be one of the last times we see Rousey in the Octagon.

“I don’t think after this fight,” Rousey said of retirement, “but definitely soon.”
