UFC superstar Ronda Rousey has just been announced as a team captain for ABC’s reboot of Battle of the Network Stars.
We might not be treated to a return to Octagon action from WMMA superstar Ronda Rousey, but that doesn’t mean she’s disappeared from the public eye altogether. MMA Fighting reports that just weeks after her guest TV spot on NBC’s Blindspot, Rousey has been announced as a team captain on ABC’s revival of Battle of the Network Stars. Rousey’s opposing team will be captained by the recently retired Denver Bronco, DeMarcus Ware.
The show, which first debuted in 1976 and ran for a 13-year stretch, was hosted by the late, great Howard Cossell. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg and Joe Tessitore will handle the reboot’s hosting and commentary duties this time around.
One-hundred television stars from 14 different networks and genres will comprise the teams, with the show’s production being handled by Glassman Media and IMG. WME-IMG, the current owners of the UFC, also represent Rousey. The debut episode of the program is set to air June 29 at 9 pm EST.
Rousey’s last Octagon appearance was at UFC 207 this past December where she recorded the second, straight loss of her mixed martial arts career.
