Despite losing her return to the Octagon last night (Fri., Dec. 30, 2016) at UFC 207 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a crushing 48-second technical knockout defeat to women’s Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Ronda Rousey walked away with a massive payday worth $3 million, according to a report by MMA Junkie earlier this week.
Not too shabby, even for a fighter who openly stated she doesn’t care about money entering her UFC 207 comeback. Nunes, meanwhile, hauled in a respectable $200,000 ($100,000 to show, $100,000 to win), as well as a percentage of PPV points and a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
Rousey’s staggering $3 million payout ties the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) record. She beat out Brock Lesnar’s $2.5 million purse for defeating Mark Hunt via decision back at UFC 200 this past July (Lesnar later tested positive for clomiphene) and tied Conor McGregor’s $3 million mark for his UFC 202 rematch victory over Nate Diaz.
Despite the horrific loss to Nunes (watch it here), Rousey at least walks away with a ton of cash. She may not have enough left in the tank for another run at UFC gold, but she’d be silly to not consider a spot return sometime in the future with this sort of money on the table.
