There will be much at stake for Rose Namajunas tonight (Sat., July 30, 2016) at UFC 201 when she takes on undefeated Polish sensation Karolina Kowalkiewicz from Atlanta, Georgia. Not only will “Thug” put her three-fight win streak on the line, but she can essentially lock down a title shot with a victory.
If she can do that, Namajunas will soon find herself across the cage from current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. While Namajunas fought for the 115-pound title once before, losing to Carla Esparza back in 2014, she has never faced someone quite like Jedrzejczyk. As a champion who stands undefeated at 12-0 and has racked off four-straight dominant championship victories, Jedrzejczyk is truly in a class of her own.
However, out of every Strawweight on the UFC roster, Namajunas believes she’s the most ready to challenge the champion and test her skills in every department.
“For me, it’s like the truth don’t get me mad. It’s like who is ready for her,” said Namajunas in a recent interview with FOX Sports. “Obviously, me having this fight right now is not just because I want to stay active, I do want the experience, but I’m right (expletive) there.”
“I don’t think anybody else is ready for her the way that I am.”
With recent victories over Paige VanZant and Tecia Torres, “Thug” has certainly done more than the rest of the division’s available contenders. She has gained massive experience since her first title loss and has shown the capability to win a fight on the feet or the ground.
