Rose Namajunas gives three possible names for her first challenger as UFC strawweight champion.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk was on her way to becoming the most dominant female fighter in the world today, until she ran into Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 last November in New York City. “Thug Rose” did the unthinkable by winning via first-round TKO to become the new UFC women’s strawweight champion.
Namajunas recognizes the magnitude of her victory, but mainly attributes it to the streak and legacy that Jedrzejczyk has so far built.
“Joanna, she was like the most dominant female, she was on her way to becoming bigger than Ronda in terms of her accomplishments,” Namajunas said (via MMA Fighting). “So to me, it’s just a testament to how great she was and the fact that I beat her, that’s just awesome.”
“I don’t think that people were necessarily sleeping on me, I just think that she was definitely very impressive.”
As for her challenger for her first title defense, Namajunas is looking at three possible names, which of course, includes the former champion.
“For me, who is the scariest person that I could fight, I think that would be cool,” “To me, what sticks out as of right now is Jessica Andrade, but at the same time a rematch with Joanna would be great too. I don’t know. The three options right now would be Joanna, or the winner of Jessica Andrade vs. Tecia Torres.”
Andrade and Torres are scheduled to face each other at UFC on FOX 28 on February 24th in Orlando, Florida.
