community news, Roy Nelson: Derrick Lewis is a bigger version of Fedor Emelianenko

If your’re a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, there is perhaps no greater compliment than being compared to Fedor Emelianenko.

And that’s just who Roy Nelson compared Derrick Lewis to ahead of their heavyweight collision at UFC Fight Night 90 on July 7, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada (details here).

As “Big Country” explained on The MMA Hour, once “The Black Beast” gets his ground-and-pound going, it’s like seeing Fedor go to town on his helpless foes. Plus, the fact that Lewis is always calm, cool, and collected is just another reason why Nelson likens him to one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time

“The one thing about Derrick is that he reminds me of like a bigger version of Fedor. When he gets that ground-and-pound going, he just loves to beat you up. And then he is just calm, cool, and collected. If you do take him down, he just muscles back up and then he puts the wrath on. One thing that I like is that he comes to fight, that’s what makes him fan friendly.”

And come to fight he does, as Lewis has three straight knockout victories inside the Octagon. Better yet, 14 of his 15 victories have come by way of knockout.

Impressive.

Nelson, however, is as tough as they come. “Big Country” has only been knocked out twice in his 12-year career, so getting a knockout win on your resume against the bearded brawler won’t come easy.

But can the bigger version of Fedor get the job done in “Sin City?”
