Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was scheduled to defend his title against top contender Anthony Johnson at the UFC 206 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card, which took place back on Dec. 10, 2016 inside Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I guess Cormier’s groin didn’t get the memo.
As a result, “DC” was benched for a torn adductor tendon. His subsequent surgery is expected to keep him on the injured reserves for a minimum of four months, putting his return somewhere in the neighborhood of late spring/early summer.
“Forever,” Johnson said about waiting for Cormier. “I’ll wait. I want to fight him. I’ve been training my butt off to fight ‘DC.’ Nobody deserves it more than me. Everybody else has to get to the back of the line and wait behind me.”
That includes you, Mr. “Dreamcatcher.”
Johnson (22-5) put together a frightening 12-1 win streak since getting bounced from UFC nearly five years back. In addition, the light heavyweight “Kong” has knocked out five of his six victims inside the Octagon with his only loss coming to Cormier.
Now it’s time to give it another go and “Rumble” has first dibs … especially with this former champion in time out.
