The marquee fight for boxing this week is the PPV title unification fight between Errol Spence, Jr. and Shawn Porter. Both men are world champions, both looking for the biggest win of their career. Bloody Elbow has live fight night coverage all night. Here, we have round by round recaps of rounds 7-9.
Round 7: Porter has definitely lost some of his energy at this point. Spence is using angles to get away from him and to control where they are fighting in the ring. When Porter gets inside here, he is at times grabbing instead of punching. Meanwhile, both men continue to land effective body punches, so we’ll see how each man’s gas tank looks as we keep going. 10-9 Spence
Round 8: Porter comes out hard this round, chasing Spence down. But it’s not as focused, and Spence is able to manage the flurry. Porter does get some good shots in, while also using some nice head movement to avoid some of Spence’s attack. Nice right late by Spence, but it’s not quite enough on my books. 10-9 Porter
Round 9: Good right hands at a few points by Porter, who seems to be feeling it this round. They get inside and trade in the final minute, with both landing clean shots and neither giving up an inch. This is a serious war right here, and it’s not an easy fight to call. 10-9 Porter
86-85 Spence on my book through the 9th, though these are consistently tough rounds to score
