Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, is on the hunt for a new opponent in the UFC Fight Night 105 main event, which is set to take place at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Feb. 19, 2017.
That’s because his original dance partner, 265-pound “Skyscraper” Stefan Struve, was forced to withdraw from their five-round headliner — and UFC 95 rematch — after injuring his shoulder in training camp.
From the Dutchman’s Instagram account:
Bad news folks. Unfortunately I won’t be able to fight in Halifax February 19, I’ll be undergoing surgery to fix a torn labrum in my left shoulder tomorrow afternoon. Docter said I will be on the sideline about four months, and of course I’m gonna be doing my best to make it back ASAP. I apologize to the fans, especially the people who bought tickets for the fight in Halifax, and of course the person I was scheduled to fight Junior dos Santos. It’s the very first time I had to pull out of a fight because of an injury and it hurts my heart to do it. I’ll keep you guys up to date about the surgery tomorrow and the rehab the next couple months. As always thank you for the support!
UFC has roughly one month to cough up a replacement.
Since losing his heavyweight title to Cain Velasquez roughly four years back, dos Santos (18-4) has alternated wins and losses, going even (3-3) inside the Octagon with a decision win over Ben Rothwell in his most recent appearance at UFC Fight Night 86 back in April.
If this is true, then he might be pulled from the Halifax event altogether.
