Stephen Thompson in favor of stripping UFC title from Tyron Woodley

Streaking Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight No. 1 contender, Stephen Thompson, believes he’s going to fight Tyron Woodley for the 170-pound title at the upcoming UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for this November in New York City.

The feeling doesn’t appear to be mutual.

“I think he’s just coming up with excuses why not to face me,” Thompson told MMA Junkie. “I know he wants that money fight, but what champion who really has had the belt around their waist for 30 seconds says, ‘Hey, give me a money fight’? I was kind of laughing in my head. If he’s refusing somebody – a champion refusing to fight somebody? Then yeah (he should be stripped).”

Woodley has his sights set on big-money fights (like this one).

Thompson (13-1) has captured seven straight, recently turning away Rory MacDonald and ex-champion Johny Hendricks. In addition, “Wonderboy” has very little competition at the top of the 170-pound ladder (aside from this guy), so will probably get his championship wish.

Unless this happens.
