Since bursting onto the scene in 2013, everybody’s been champing at the bit to get a piece of the Conor McGregor pie.

World-class boxers included.

And Stephen Thompson is no different, as he recently told Submission Radio he’d love to go toe-to-toe against “Notorious” down the road and collect on the big payday that comes with it.

“When I become the welterweight champion, I would love to step in the Octagon with Conor McGregor. He’s a phenomenal martial artist, right? And I honor him for doing what he’s doing with the sport. But like you said, it would be a big payday. It really would. And it would be a great payday for anybody who steps in the Octagon with Conor McGregor. And you would be stupid if you thought otherwise. And I think all the fighters would know that. You know, if somebody would say, ‘hey you wanna fight Conor McGregor?’ Heck yeah. They’d all be jumping at it.”

Conor’s first attempt at 170 pounds didn’t go as planned, as Nate Diaz took it to him at UFC 196, submitting him via rear-naked choke (see it again here).

That’s why “Wonderboy” — who faces Rory MacDonald at UFC Fight Night 89 on June 18, 2016 — says if he were Conor’s trainer, he’d nix any plans they might have to challenge current division kingpin and much bigger champion, Robbie Lawler.

But if they want another go-around at welterweight, Thompson is more than up for the challenge.
