One of the most dangerous middleweights in the world today made his return to the Octagon last night (Sat., Feb. 11, 2017) at UFC 208 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as top title threat Ronaldo Souza put his divisional stake on the line opposite wily veteran Tim Boetsch. Souza was looking to win his seventh UFC fight in just eight attempts, while “The Barbarian” was aiming to extend his two-fight knockout streak.
Boetsch utilized a lot of head movement in the early going to keep Souza guessing, but the Brazilian was able to finally slink his way in and secure a beautiful takedown. From there, “Jacare” quickly moved into mount and worked his way towards a kimura. Once Souza cranked, Boetsch had nothing left to do but tap. The submission win is Souza’s fifth of his UFC career and served as the first finish of UFC 208’s card.

With this win, Souza sort of stays put in the middleweight rankings. Boetsch is a serviceable veteran, but not a guy that’s going to allow the Brazilian to leapfrog Yoel Romero in the hunt for Michael Bisping’s title. So until “Soldier of God” gets his hands on “The Count,” Souza may have to fend off yet another hungry challenger.
