When looking back on his wins last year over Davin Clark and Clinton Williams, light heavyweight Jake “Honey Badger” Heun doesn’t believe so much that he rebounded off his loss in his fight prior to Clifford Starks, as much as he rediscovered what works for him as a fighter.
“I wouldn’t say it’s so much getting back on track, as much as I’m fighting correctly,” Heun told MMAWeekly.com. “I was able to get back to myself and strike a little bit more and not get drawn so much into the grappling aspect of things like I did with Clifford.
“I went to Thailand for a little while and worked on my Muay Thai at Tiger Muay Thai and kind of kicked up the training again and found a new passion for the sport again, because I had been getting stagnant there for a little bit.”
Heun admits that his trip to Thailand was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, but nonetheless it provided a good jolt to his routine that got him invested in fighting again.
“I just on a whim kind of decide to hop on an airplane and was over there for two months,” said Heun. “They’re really heavy with their cardio over there and those guys are in shape. The actual Thai style I don’t think has a ton of carryover to MMA because of the lack of movement, but they had a couple of really good K-1 guys there that I worked out with.
