Season 24 of the UFC’s hit reality show, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), carries golden implications.
According to a press release issued Tuesday from the UFC, 16 flyweight fighters will compete, with the winner receiving a title shot at the show’s finale in December.
This marks the third time the reality show has carved a path to the title. In Season 4, Matt Serra won the tournament and a shot at Georges St-Pierre’s welterweight title, and Carla Esparza captured the inaugural strawweight title in Season 20.
Currently, Demetrious Johnson – who faces Henry Cejudo April 23 at UFC 197 – holds the UFC flyweight championship. He is the first and only man to hold the 125-pound title inside the Octagon.
Tryouts will take place April 25 in Las Vegas at Palace Station. TUF 24 will begin filming in June and the show will premiere August 31 on Fox Sports 1.
