Down goes Garcia! @SStricklandMMA smelled the finish and went for it! #UFCPittsburgh https://t.co/u1PT8OJvnH

It was a back-and-forth war between two surging welterweights but in the end it was the 24-year-old Anaheim native who prevailed with a late flurry to finish the durable Dominican fighter.
Sean Strickland started the fight with some ruthless ground and pound, winding up and smashing through the guard of Alex Garcia with his long reach. But the Tristar-trained fighter swept Strickland and finished the first round on top by returning the favor with ground and pound.
The second round saw Garcia again try and use his wrestling, and while Strickland seemed to get the better of it on the feet, nobody was really sure what the score might be cageside headed into the third (especially with these clowns judging tonight).
It was more of the same in the third, except Strickland managed to stuff the repeated takedown attempts of Garcia and bloody his nose. With a minute left in the fight the former middleweight landed a combination that seemed to hurt Garcia, and literally chased him down against the cage to secure the stoppage.
With the win, Strickland improves to 17-1 (4-1 UFC), while Garcia fell to 13-3 (3-2 UFC).
