Tony Ferguson and Al Iaquinta continue to have a go at each other on social media.

On Monday, things kicked off on social media between Tony Ferguson and Al Iaquinta, and the two lightweight standouts are still at each other’s throats.

Iaquinta took the bait when Ferguson, 34, subtly dissed him in a tweet that was aimed primarily at newly-crowned lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who beat ‘Raging Al’ in a short-notice title bout at UFC 223.

Ferguson didn’t take kindly to being called a ‘weirdo’, and the two fighters continued trade shots on Twitter, with Iaquinta mocking ‘El Cucuy’ for the ‘freak’ circumstances that led to his withdrawal from UFC 223.

In case you missed the chaotic series of events leading up to UFC 223, Ferguson tripped on a wire during a pre-fight media obligation and was forced to withdraw from the event at the last minute. That’s when Iaquinta, 30, stepped up to the plate and fought Nurmagomedov as Ferguson’s replacement, losing via lopsided decision in the revamped championship main event.

Ferguson was stripped of the interim lightweight title and, after tripping on a wire in the lead-up to UFC 223, suffered a torn ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for the rest of the year.

Nurmagomedov, who cemented himself as the undisputed 155-pound champion, has vowed to defend his newly-acquired title against any top-five lightweight contender.
