Tony Ferguson says his interim title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov should be the headliner for UFC 209, Tyron Woodley issues a zinger.
UFC 209 will have two title bouts on the card. Tyron Woodley will look to defend his welterweight belt against Stephen Thompson, while Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will battle for the interim lightweight title.
The welterweight title rematch officially headlines the event, but ‘El Cucuy’ claims that he should be the one holding top billing.
“(Khabib) pissed me off. I’m going to drag him into deep waters with a hammerhead. You guys are going to see f—king fireworks. This should be the main event!” Ferguson stated during the UFC 209 conference call.
“I don’t know why Stephen Thompson vs T. Woodley is the main event, but this is the shit everyone is talking about. This is the third time (the fight was booked), and third time’s the charm.”
Woodley, who was also on the same conference call, issued a brief but resounding response.
“Because I’m a world champion, and you’re not,” Woodley quipped. “That’s why it’s the main event.”
Ferguson ignored the line, and continued talking about how Khabib is “not on his level”, but it was an interesting zinger nonetheless.
