Tony Ferguson has no respect for McGregor and has no real interest in fighting him for the UFC lightweight title.

All the focus is on Conor McGregor’s potential boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr., but No. 2 ranked UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson, who takes on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the interim lightweight belt next Saturday, couldn’t care less.

Speaking to Damon Martin FOX Sports, ‘El Cucuy’ said ‘The Notorious’ is using boxing as a ‘scapegoat’ to leave MMA and to avoid defending his lightweight strap against Ferguson or Nurmagomedov.

“I don’t see McNuggets ever wanting to come back,” Ferguson said. “He’s using boxing as a way and a scapegoat to be able to leave this [sport] because he doesn’t want to get his ass kicked by either of us. I don’t respect him for [expletive] [expletive].”

McGregor, the former UFC featherweight champion, captured the LW belt when he dusted Eddie Alvarez with a four-punch combination at UFC 205, becoming the first man in the promotion to hold two belts simultaneously. Not long after winning his second UFC title, the Irishman acquired a boxing license and said his next fight would ‘100 percent’ be in boxing.

Ferguson, 33, said neither him or Nurmagomedov wants him in the UFC, so he can go ahead and ‘quit’.

“If this guy wants to go and quit like a little [expletive] go for it. We don’t want you here,” Ferguson said about McGregor. “145 didn’t want you here. 170, you got submitted by No. 5 in the world. I’m No. 2.”

The 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu representative went on to say that McGregor is only champion because UFC president Dana White wanted him to have the belt.

“You’ve got the belt because Dana [White] wanted you to have it. It was more lucrative for my company that I work for and that I love so much but yet I’m still here working for them like I do like a hard ass Mexican. This is what I do. I work hard. I won’t back down.”

Ferguson targeted McGregor’s fashion style and tattoos, saying that he stole his image from a model.

“He wants to take his look from a model. It was all over the UG. He wants to take his looks and his tattoos from this one male model. He wants to act and emulate something that he’s not. That’s why he’s McNuggets.”

While McGregor is pursuing a boxing spectacle against Mayweather, Ferguson will look to take the No. 1 spot at lightweight when he takes on Nurmagomedov at UFC 209.

The pay-per-view, which features a headlining welterweight championship rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, takes place March 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
