Following Thursday’s weigh-in, The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale finally has the green light to put the spotlight on main eveneters Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes.
Edgar – and fight fans – have been calling for a UFC featherweight title shot for more than a year. Circumstance being what it is has continuously denied him, while he keeps racking up victories.
Skipped over for a late-replacement slot to face Conor McGregor for an interim belt at UFC 189 when champion Jose Aldo dropped out of the fight due to injury, Edgar now faces the man that skipped ahead of him to face McGregor, Chad Mendes. He hopes with a win over Mendes that he’ll finally get the title shot that so many feel he has deserved for a long time.
Mendes is on the other end of the spectrum. He has lost twice to Aldo and once to McGregor. So a win over Edgar probably won’t get him a shot at either, no matter which of the two wins the UFC 194 main event to unify their championships.
