There’s been yet another twist in this topsy-turvy UFC women’s flyweight tournament.

Incredible drama has taken place at Thursday’s The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale weigh-ins.

Sijara Eubanks was set to fight Nicco Montano for the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight title on Friday night in Las Vegas, but that will not longer be happening. Eubanks, who struggled to make weight while on TUF 26, did not make the two-hour window for the official weigh-ins, which constitutes a miss. Replacing Eubanks is none other than the woman she defeated in the semifinal, #1-seeded Roxanne Modafferi.

According to MMAjunkie, “Eubanks was forced to visit the hospital overnight and was ultimate ruled medically ineligible for the card,” hence Modafferi’s unexpected and remarkable last-minute opportunity to call herself a UFC champion.

This news does leave Barb Honchak without an opponent, although she could end up facing Lauren Murphy, who was supposed to be on this card but was removed after her opponent Priscila Cachoeira was unable to obtain a visa in time for the event. Per Heidi Fang, the UFC has not made any decision on what’s next for Honchak.
