TUF washout accused of beating up high school girl, gets sent for mental examination by local court

Something in the water?

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 contestant Daniel Lee Barrera, bounced from the combat sports reality show by Ben Saunders in the opening round, is no longer competing in mixed martial arts (MMA), but that doesn’t mean the aging welterweight is done fighting.

Unfortunately, his last opponent was (allegedly) an unsuspecting high school girl.

From the Hawaii Tribune-Herald:

According to Deputy Prosecutor Glenn Shiigi, the police report indicates 36-year-old Daniel Lee Barrera of Keaau walked uninvited into wrestling practice at Pahoa High School, came up behind the girl as she was in a wrestler’s position on hands and knees, and struck her three times on the back with an open palm, causing pain and redness. The girl reportedly told police she had never met Barrera prior to the incident.

Barrera insists he was there by invitation and also told the court that Hawaiians need to “toughen up.”

Aside from a mandatory mental evaluation, Barrera remains in custody on $2,000 bail as a result of prior run-ins with the law, including disorderly conduct and harassment. His hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28.

Any chance this is a factor?
