Two Headliners Face Six-Month Layoffs: UFC 224 Medical Suspensions

On Monday, the Brazilian Athletic Commission of MMA (CABMMA) released the medical suspensions stemming from Saturday’s UFC 224: Nunes vs. Pennington pay-per-view event. Most of the athletes that competed on the fight card received minimal suspensions but two face potentially lengthy time off.

Women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes defeated Raquel Pennington in the fight card’s main event to retain her 135-pound title. During the post-fight press conference, Nunes had to be carried to her seat due to a foot injury. She received a six-month suspension pending an x-ray of her foot with a minimum suspension of 30 days with no contact for three weeks.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza lost a split decision to Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event and also faces a six-month suspension pending a normal x-ray of his right foot with a minimum suspension of 45 days with no contact for 30 days.
