Tyron Woodley opens as favorite over Nate Diaz in rumored UFC 219 fight

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is currently favored to win against Nate Diaz in their reported fight at UFC 219.

Major rumors have floated around on Tuesday about a possible marquee match-up at UFC 219 in December. In an unlikely turn of events, Tyron Woodley will reportedly defend his title against Nate Diaz, who has not fought for over a year and is coming off a loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202.

There have been mixed reactions about the possible match-up, but many are questioning why Diaz deserves such an opportunity. According to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, it is the UFC “getting creative” in their matchmaking for a card that is slated to take place in six weeks but has yet to have a headliner fight.

As quite expected, Woodley is favored to win the fight against Diaz. As noted by MMA Fighting, sports book Bovada has the champion as the -260 favorite over the challenger, who opened up as the +200 underdog.

It is possibly worth noting that Diaz opened up as a bigger underdog against McGregor at UFC 196 in March 2016. The fresh off Cabo, tequila-filled Diaz (as he claimed), began as a +258 underdog for the fight but ended up winning via second-round submission, marking the most significant victory of his career.

From his end, Woodley says he is already looking forward to the plausible fight.

“If Nate wants to go UFC 219, I’m ready,” Woodley told ESPN.com.

UFC 219 is scheduled for December 30th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
