Reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is still none the wiser as to what’s going on between the top contenders in the division.
Last week, it was reported that Ultimate Fighting Championship was looking to strip Covington of the interim belt and book a title fight between Woodley and Till.
Till called out Woodley on Twitter. Covington claims he’s fighting ‘T-Wood’ in late 2018.
According to the champ, however, the UFC hadn’t offered him a fight with either man.
“[The UFC] never even called me about the [Colby Covington] fight. That’s the funny part. [He and Rafael Dos Anjos] fought June 9th, I never got a call even to fight him. I never got a call,” Woodley said in an interview with TMZ Sports, per BJPenn.com’s Drake Riggs.
Woodley went on to rip ‘Chaos’ for allegedly pulling out of the fight that was never offered in the first place and told ‘The Gorilla’ to make weight before he even considers fighting for the welterweight title.
“I just said [to him], ‘hey you won the boo-boo belt, now come get your ass whooped’. Now all of the sudden… [Covington] was supposed to fight me and then he said I talked all the shit now hold on…I gotta actually get in there with this dude and fight him. So he called Dana [White] and said, ‘hey, Dana um…my vagina’s sore…and um…I don’t think I can fight Tyron Woodley,’” Woodley continued.
“So now I got somebody (Darren Till) who hit me up at 2:00 AM on Twitter saying, ‘sign the contract’. I hate when fighters do that. I don’t have no damn contract and who are you? Didn’t you just miss weight?”
Till, 25, missed weight earlier this at UFC Fight Night 130 and was forced to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Stephen Thompson. The top contender ended up winning a controversial, unanimous decision in a competitive five-round fight at the Echo Arena in his hometown of Liverpool, England. Till also missed weight by six pounds in his fight with Jessin Ayari in 2017.
Woodley, who hasn’t fought since his title defense vs. Demian Maia last July, told Till to have his manager contact Dana White if he wants to enter serious negotiations for a title fight.
“If you want to fight me have your manager set it up, have Dana White set it up and that’s the deal.”
Woodley suffered a shoulder tear in his fight with Maia and is expected to return to the Octagon later this year. Against who, no one seems to know.
