Tyron Woodley to appear in new Spider Man: Homecoming movie next year

Life is good for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. After knocking Robbie Lawler out cold at UFC 201 this past July, “The Chosen One” has burst onto the mainstream mixed martial arts (MMA) scene. He has even made headlines with call outs of Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre.

But like most UFC champions who have capitalized on a career opportunity to bolster popularity and public notoriety, Woodley will take his talents to the silver screen screen in 2017. The 34-year-old powerhouse has already been featured in such films as Straight Outta Compton and Kickboxer: Vengeance, but will now increase is Hollywood presence with a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming move set for a July 7, 2017 release.

“I don’t know if I can even say this, but I’m working on a Marvel movie on Thursday in Atlanta,” said Woodley during a recent appearance earlier this week on The MMA Hour.

While Woodley didn’t say the movie would be Spider-Man: Homecoming, the only other Marvel movie being filmed right now is Thor: Ragnarok, and that set is placed half way across the world in Australia (h/t Awful Announcing). The last time a UFC fighter appeared in a Marvel movie former MMA superstar Georges St-Pierre was kicking his way past red, white and blue in Captain America: Winter Soldier.

At the end of the day, this is great news for Woodley. The specifics of his role in Spider-Man: Homecoming have yet to be announced, but it’s safe to say the newly crowned 170-pound champ is making moves towards international stardom.
