Not only did Alexander Gustafsson end up on the wrong end of a split-decision result with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 192 in Houston on Saturday night, he also landed what could be a six-month suspension.
Gustafsson fought what can only be described as a five-round war with Cormier, but when all was said and done, he was left bloodied and bruised, and was taken to the hospital to get checked out immediately following the fight. As such, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation deemed it appropriate to hand Gustafsson a medical suspension that lasts until April 1, 2016, unless he gets medical clearance by a doctor.
Cormier, who was exhausted and called it the “worst beating” of his life afterwards, was much luckier, only landing on the suspension list until Nov. 18. He would not be scheduled to fight anywhere near that time frame anyway.
Two other UFC 192 fighters, Shawn Jordan and Yair Rodrigquez, each received an indefinite suspension pending a doctor’s clearance before either can fight again.
The TDLR on Monday issued the full list of medical suspensions.
