Stephens found success with another low kick, as Holloway just missed with a looping left hand. Rond one ended with them tangled along the cage.

Stephens landed a nice uppercut as Holloway jumped in to land a right hand, his best punch of the fight at the time. He looked to build off the momentum with a takedown, but Holloway stubbornly fought him until he was free in the center of the Octagon. At the mid-point of round two, both fighters finally opening up, letting their fists fly in a flurry before Stephens once again angled for a takedown.

On the break, Holloway drilled him with a nice right hand along the cage, motivating Stephens to once again attempt a takedown, which was once again unsuccessful.
