Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) added a pair of heavy hitters to its upcoming UFC 196 pay-per-view (PPV) line up, which takes place on Feb. 6, 2016 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Light heavyweight contender Ovince Saint Preux will trade leather with power-punching Strikeforce import Rafael Cavalcante, according to a report from UFC Tonight, and it’s safe to say this is a must-win situation for both combatants.
Perhaps more so for “Feijao.”
The Brazilian (12-6) has now dropped two straight and is just 1-3 under the UFC banner since crossing over in early 2012. Add to that his failed drug test in defeat to Thiago Silva and well … there isn’t a very compelling reason to keep him around — with a loss at UFC 196 — when you consider this.
As for Saint Preux?
His job is not in jeopardy if he comes up short against Cavalcante, but he can go ahead and say goodbye to his run at the 205-pound title. After firing off back-to-back knockout wins over Mauricio Rua and Patrick Cummins, “OSP” was choked out by Glover Teixeira.
His performance on Feb. 6 will be very telling in regards to where he stands in the division title hunt.
UFC 196 will be headlined by the heavyweight rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez. Elsewhere on the card, Johny Hendricks returns to action to battle kickboxing wunderkind Stephen Thompson.
