UFC 197 results: Demetrious Johnson steamrolls Henry Cejudo

LAS VEGAS — Demetrious Johnson took another step toward UFC immortality on Satuday night. And he wasted little time getting there.

The UFC flyweight champion, the only titleholder the division has ever known, has stated his biggest career goal is catching Anderson Silva’s record of 10 successful title defenses.

After steamrolling the previously undefeated Henry Cejudo at UFC 197, Johnson’s just two defenses away from catching the longtime middleweight champion. Johnson’s TKO victory over Cejudo in just 2:49 was his eighth successful defense, tying him with former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for third-most all-time.

“Mighty Mouse” left no doubt his thoughts on the matter after the win.

“I am the best pound for pound fighter in the world,” said Johnson, who is unbeaten in his last 11 fights.

The biggest question going in was how Johnson would handle the wrestling of Cejudo, who was a 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the sport. Cejudo scored a takedown, but Johnson quickly powered him off and sprung back to his feet.

From there, Johnson brutalized Cejudo with nasty knees in the clinch. a wobble Cejudo (10-1) escaped, but Johnson caught up to him and finished the job as the fight was waved off.

“There’s no game plan,” said Johnson, who is the UFC’s longest reigning current champion. “I come in here and I fight, my clinch is very dangerous.”
