UFC 199: Luke Rockhold predicts second-round finish of Chris Weidman in title rematch

Luke Rockhold may be taking lessons at the Conor McGregor center for mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters who can’t fight good and want to learn how to do other good things, too, because this next quote is straight out of the playbook of “Notorious.”

Obviously, that was meant to be taken as a joke as the reigning 185-pound champion of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) can fight quite well. It was just two months ago that Rockhold soundly relieved then titleholder Chris Weidman of his championship belt at the UFC 194 pay-per-view (PPV).

And we only saw half of Rockhold show up that night due to a bad bout with staph infection and a cocktail of antibiotics prior to their “Sin City” headliner in December.

With Weidman barking at UFC president Dana White for a rematch over the last two months, it now appears as if the latter is ready to budge.

White announced earlier this month that he was hoping to have the duo face off at UFC 199 in June and now Bloody Elbow has Rockhold’s succinct prediction as to how he sees his second exchange with Weidman playing out.

“Weidman goes down in two [rounds]. I’m putting him away in half the time. I almost feel bad about this next one,” Rockhold said.


Rockhold came into his first engagement with Weidman extremely confident, but like the former, the Long Islander too came into the tussle at less than 100 percent. A badly fractured foot was partly to blame for Weidman’s uncharacteristic performance, according to his coach Ray Longo.
