Now, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion wants to get back his hardware, as he declared during the post-fight press conference he hopes to get a title fight against the winner of the upcoming championship (UF)C fight between current champ Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem.
The hard-hitting brawlers are set to tango at UFC 203 on Sept., 10 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio. And Cain will be watching intently.
“For me, I just always want to fight the best guys. I want the winner of Stipe and Overeem. That’s what I want. I felt like the stuff I’ve done for this training camp as far as keeping my body healthy, I feel like it’s worked for me. And to go through a whole training camp without any little tweaks or nothing really bothering me has been awesome. And that’s because of the stuff I’ve done to keep my body healthy. So, I want the best guys out there. those two guys are fighting for the belt, I want to fight the winner.”
Cain lost his title to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 in June of 2013. His return was then abruptly halted due to injuries. But now that he is back to full form — both health wise and inside the cage — Cain won’t settle for anything less than a title shot.
And his impressive first-round win over “Hapa” will go a long way in convincing UFC matchmakers he should be next in line, and not “Vai Cavalo.”
